Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears Grab Lead in Seventh Inning for Victory Over Walnut Grove Warriors

The Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears stole the lead late and defeated the Walnut Grove Warriors 9-6 on Wednesday. The game was tied at six with Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears batting in the top of the seventh when Landon Kemp doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Walnut Grove scored five runs in the third inning, but the Bears still managed to pull out the victory. The Warriors offense in the inning was led by Rhett Lamberth and Jackson Wright, who each had RBIs in the inning.

The Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears fired up the offense in the second inning. Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears scored one run when Ethan England doubled.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Bears tied things up at six. Kaden Thompson singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.

After Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears scored one run in the top of the fourth, Warriors answered with one of their own. Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears scored when Bryce England hit a solo homer. The Warriors then answered when Hewett Jones singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears put up four runs in the fifth inning. Caleb Miele, Brett House, and KT Thompson each drove in runs during the inning.

Brady Stephens led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears. Stephens went three innings, allowing six runs on five hits, striking out two and walking one. Jack Sparks provided one inning of relief, and Jacob Vokal pitched the final three innings, allowing 0 hits or runs and striking out 5.

Thomas Burke started the game for the Warriors. The pitcher allowed five hits and six runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Sam Martell threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears socked one home run on the day. Bryce England had a long ball in the fourth inning.

Thompson went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears in hits. Cherokee Bluff Varsity Bears stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Ty Corbin led the way with four.

The Warriors had six hits in the game. Alec Clayton and Jones all managed multiple hits for Walnut Grove.
